The 80s metal masterpiece is coming back on March 24th!

So try following this. It’s no easy feat:

Rock closed this past Sunday night, playing its final performance at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The show’s spot at the Atkinson will be taken by Beatles tribute show, Rain, which is moving from its slot at the Neil Simon Theatre. Rain has to move to make way for the upcoming Catch Me If You Can, which is set to open this Spring. Meanwhile, Colin Quinn is performing his show, Long Story Short, at the Helen Hayes Theatre through March 5th. When Quinn exits, Rock of Ages moves in to resume performances there.

Confused? Me too! But the good news is that Rock of Ages isn’t gone for good. It will return on March 24th at the Helen Hayes Theatre. And you can be sure that we’ll have your tickets then.

That’s today’s ShowBus Buzz. We’ll be back later this week with our next blog update. Please join us then.

Directed by legendary comic Jerry Seinfeld, Colin Quinn Long Story Short is moving from off-Broadway’s Bleecker Street Theatre where it debuted in mid June of this year. On October 22nd the show begins previews for an 11-week limited engagement at Broadway’s Helen Hayes Theatre on West 44th Street.

Comically channeling the demise of great world empires, Quinn takes his audiences through an uproarious history of the world in 75 minutes. From his personification of Caesar as the original Italian mobster to his complaints about Ancient Greece and Antigone giving way to Costco and Snooki, Quinn is at his satirical best, taking on the attitudes, appetites and bad habits that toppled the world’s most powerful nations.

Opening night for Colin Quinn Long Story Short is November 9th, with the final performance of the limited run show set for January 8th.

The show is a comedy-drama by Geoffrey Nauffts about a gay couple tested by religious differences and interfering family and friends. It debuted at Broadway’s Helen Hayes Theatre on March 11th of this year to virtually unanimous critical acclaim. But despite garnering a Tony Award nomination for Best Play, the production never really caught on commercially. It’s said that backers lost their entire two million dollar investment.

Producer Richard Willis told the Times that he plans to approach Elton John and David Furnish about launching Next Fall in London. But for now, the curtain will close for the final time on Broadway on Sunday, July 4th.

Elton John Joins Next Fall Team
We’ve been seeing a lot of celebrities on Broadway over the last several months. That trend continues now with the announcement that Elton John, along with his partner, David Furnish, will be lending their talents to the producing team for the upcoming production of Next Fall. The show, which portrays the ups and downs of a gay couple’s five year relationship, is scheduled to begin previews at Broadway’s Helen Hayes Theatre on February 16th, with opening night set for March 11th. Watch our website for tickets very soon.

Jerry Lewis

Jerry Lewis on Broadway?
He’s 84 years old, but he may soon be Broadway bound! Reports are that legendary comedian and charity fundraiser Jerry Lewis may be bringing his musical adaptation of The Nutty Professor to The Great White Way as soon as this Fall. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Lewis would direct the show, which features music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Rupert Holmes. The paper quotes Lewis as saying the production could be on Broadway as soon as October or November of this year, though no theatre has been named. You can bet that the ShowBus Blog will have updates on this story as they develop.

A Streetcar Named Desire
The classic Tennessee Williams play A Streetcar Named Desire may be returning to Broadway in the Spring of 2011. That’s the word from Stephen C. Byrd who controls the rights to the show. Byrd, you may remember, produced the 2008 revival of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, which featured an all black cast including Phylicia Rashad, James Earl Jones and Terrence Howard. This proposed revival of Streetcar will have a multiracial cast yet to be announced.

New Shows!
We’ve added a couple of new shows to the ShowBus website this week. Tickets are now available for The Miracle Worker and for A Behanding In Spokane, the latter starring Christopher Walken. Liz Smith, for example, from The New York Post, called it “the most entertaining show on Broadway!” David Richardson of New York’s WOR radio described it as “about the cleverest show on Broadway in a long time.”
