Vince Lombardi Story May Be Broadway Bound
Based on the book Pride Still Matters by David Maraniss, a new Broadway play may be on the way about the life of legendary Green Bay Packers football coach, Vince Lombardi. The production, if it makes its way to The Great White Way, will be produced by Tony Ponturo and Fran Kirmser of Hair fame.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Lombardi coached the Packers from 1959 to 1967, racking up 5 league championships and two Superbowl wins during his tenure. His name has become synonymous with the NFL and he is widely known for his motivational skills on and off the field.

Look for a possible Fall 2010 debut for Lombardi on Broadway.

Million Dollar Quartet Set for Nederlander Theatre
After a year long run in the Windy City, Million Dollar Quartet has announced that will make it’s Broadway debut next Spring at West 41st Street’s Nederlander Theatre.

Million Dollar Quartet captures the excitement and the sounds of the night when music legends Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley all came together for a one-night jam session at Sun Records’ storefront studio in Memphis. Featuring songs like “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Great Balls of Fire” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” Memphis is a treasure trove of the greatest rock, rockabilly, gospel, R&B and country standards of the 1950s.

Here’s a quick video clip from Million Dollar Quartet which is scheduled to begin previews on March 13th, with opening night set for April 2010 at the Nederlander.

More Wishful Drinking
Carrie Fisher’s one-woman show, Wishful Drinking, has announced that it will extend it’s run at Broadway’s Studio 54. Originally scheduled to go dark on January 3rd, the limited engagement will now add two more weeks of performances, with January 17th now set as its final night.

The daughter of Hollywood legends Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, Fisher’s show is a tell-all about her life as the child of Hollywood royalty. Tales of her parents’ divorce, her own divorces, her various romantic involvements, and even her experience after starring in Star Wars are all part of this honest and often humorous look at the star’s life.

Wishful Drinking
September 22nd marks the start of previews for Carrie Fisher’s autobiographical show, Wishful Drinking. In the production, Fisher recounts the true and intoxicating tale of her life as a Hollywood legend, told with the same wry wit she poured into bestsellers like ‘Postcards from the Edge.’ The daughter of Hollywood legends Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher became a cultural icon when she starred as Princess Leia in the first ‘Star Wars’ trilogy at 19 years old. Forever changed, Carrie’s life did not stay picture perfect. Fisher is the life of the party in this uproarious and sobering look at her Hollywood hangover. Look for this limited engagement of Wishful Drinking at Broadway’s Studio 54, with opening night set for October 4th.

Zeta-Jones Broadway Bound?
You won’t hear it from her lips (yet), but according to her husband, Michael Douglas, during an appearance on Live! With Regis & Kelly, Catherine Zeta-Jones is eying her Broadway debut in the upcoming revival of Steven Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. Zeta-Jones will reportedly play the role of Desiree, starring opposite Angela Lansbury who holds down the role of Madame Armfeldt.

The original production of A Little Night Music hit The Great White Way back in 1973 at the Shubert Theatre, later moving to the Majestic. During it’s run, the show won 5 Tony awards. Watch for this revival – reportedly with Catherine Zeta-Jones in the spotlight – at the Walter Kerr Theatre on a date yet to be announced.

Phantom Sequel?
Word is that Andrew Lloyd Webber is busy at work on the sequel to Phantom of the Opera, entitled Love Never Dies. Webber has been releasing information about the new show in drips and drabs. But a new website features a letter from The Phantom promising a big announcement on October 8th. What do we know about the show thus far? Only the information that appears on Webber’s new site: “Graced with stunning designs, passionate lyrics and a magnificent score, this brand-new musical is a roller coaster ride of obsession and intrigue… in which music and memory can play cruel tricks… and The Phantom sets out to prove that, indeed, Love Never Dies.” Rest assured that we’ll keep you posted as new details about this Phantom sequel are released.

And that’s today’s ShowBus Buzz. Check back here often because we’ll be back with more news from Broadway very soon.

Wishful Drinking
Carrie Fisher, well known for her role as Princess Leia in the first Star Wars trilogy, is set to bring her one-woman show, Wishful Drinking, to Broadway’s Studio 54 this Fall. Fisher, the daughter of showbiz legends Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, tells the not-so-idyllic tale of growing up in Hollywood. Watch for previews to begin on September 22nd, with opening night set for October 4th.

A Little Night Music
Variety magazine reports that Trevor Nunn’s production of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s A Little Night Music is headed for Broadway late this year. The show, which follows three lovestruck couples as they lose, and find, each other during a long midsummer night on a country estate, originally hit Broadway in 1973. No casting has been announced for this revival, which is eying a December opening.

Going, Going…
Despite its star-studded cast of Jeremy Irons, Joan Allen and Marsha Mason, Broadway’s Impressionism is set to play it’s final performance at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on Sunday, May 10th. The limited run production, which opened on March 24th, was originally scheduled to end on July 5th. But after 23 previews and 56 regular performances, the show will now go dark one week from this Sunday.

That’s today’s news. Be sure to check back here every week for the latest Broadway Buzz!
