The 63rd annual Tony Awards ceremony was held on June 7th, 2009 and the big winner at this year’s show was Billy Elliot which garnered 10 awards, including Best Musical. Other notable winners included Hair for Best Musical, God of Carnage for Best Play and The Norman Conquests for Best Revival of a Play.

The big news on Broadway today is the announcement of the 2009 Tony Award nominations, which were unveiled at the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center this morning.

Leading the pack for nominations is Billy Elliot, which garnered 15. That number ties the record for nominations previously set by The Producers. Other standouts this year include Hair and Shrek The Musical, which each collected 8 nominations, followed closely behind by Mary Stuart and The Norman Conquests which each received 7 nominations.
