But after receiving eight Tony Award nominations this year, the producers of Disney’s Newsies have announced that the show will now play an open-ended engagement at the Nederlander Theatre.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teen aged “newsies,” who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike.

They’ve been recognizing theater excellence for 62 years. And this year the Outer Critics Circle Awards handed over three prizes to the Broadway hit, One Man, Two Guvnors. The show got the nods for Outstanding New Broadway Play, Outstanding Direction of a Play for Nicholas Hytner and Outstanding Actor in a Play for James Corden.

Breakout comic actor Corden stars as Francis Henshall (“ONE MAN”). Always famished and easily confused, Henshall agrees to work for a local gangster as well as a criminal in hiding (“TWO GUVNORS”), both of whom are linked in a web of schemes, extortions and romantic associations… none of which Francis can keep straight. So he has to do everything in his power to keep his two guvnors from meeting, while trying to eat anything in sight along the way. Simple!

The Outer Critics Circle is an association of members connected with more than 90 newspapers, magazines, web sites, radio and TV stations, and theater publications in the U.S. and around the world. They also bestowed three awards this year, including Best Broadway Musical, on the show Once at the Bernard B. The show, starring Raúl Esparza, Jessica Phillips and Kendra Kassebaum, began previews at that venue on April 3rd.

The show tells the story of Jonas Nightingale. With his troupe of singers, he’s journeyed far and wide, rattling the rafters, conning the crowds and trading miracles for money. And tonight’s a special night: He’s sharing the story of his very own redemption. Don’t miss his roof-raising tale about the time he came face to face with a strong-willed woman and a spirited boy who put his grift – and his own faith – to the test.

It’s been a busy day here at Peter Pan ShowBus as we’ve added four new shows to our roster of Broadway hits. Take a look at what’s new on The Great White Way!

CLYBOURNE PARK
Clybourne Park explodes in two outrageous acts set 50 years apart. Act One takes place in 1959, as nervous community leaders anxiously try to stop the sale of a home to a black family. Act Two is set in the same house in the present day, as the now predominantly African-American neighborhood battles to hold its ground in the face of gentrification.

EVITA
Eva Perón used her smarts and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. EVITA tells Eva’s passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater’s most beautiful songs, including “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” and “High Flying, Adored.”

NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT
Hilarious Broadway entertainment is back in high style! Matthew Broderick (The Producers) and Kelli O’Hara (South Pacific) star in this sparkling tale of playboys, politicians, bootleggers and leggy chorus girls, all running loose in a glorious Long Island mansion in the rip-roaring 1920s. Let the fun begin!

ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS
Always famished and easily confused, Francis Henshall agrees to work for a local gangster as well as a criminal in hiding (“TWO GUVNORS”), both of whom are linked in a web of schemes, extortions and romantic associations… none of which Francis can keep straight. So he has to do everything in his power to keep his two guvnors from meeting, while trying to eat anything in sight along the way. Simple. Falling trousers, flying fish heads, star-crossed lovers, cross-dressing mobsters and a fabulous on-stage band are just some of what awaits at the most “deliriously funny” (Daily Telegraph) play to cross the pond in decades!

It just opened on March 29th and last week Newsies topped the one-million dollar mark at the box office for the week, putting it in some pretty elite company. What’s more, it’s been packing the house to capacity, playing to standing room only crowds at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teen aged “newsies,” who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right.

Earlier this year the cast of Newsies made a visit to the ladies of ABC’s The View. Here’s a look at that performance – and a look at what all the excitement is about:

But now comes word that actor Tom Hanks may be considering his Broadway debut in Nora Ephron’s Stories About McAlary.

Stories About McAlary focuses on the life of a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who wrote for the New York Daily News and the New York Post. According to a previous report, the show “is a loosely structured series of scenes about McAlary’s life and the stories he covered, including the Abner Louima case, for which he won a Pulitzer… [and] the columnist’s biggest screw-up: In 1995, he wrongly accused a lesbian of making up a rape charge to publicize feminist causes.”

While Tom Hanks has never performed on The Great White Way, his success on the big screen is legendary. In addition to winning Academy Awards for Forrest Gump and Philadelphia, he also received Oscar nominations for Big, Saving Private Ryan and Cast Away. And those are just a few of the many audience favorites that the star has headlined in his film career.
