Promises, Promises Closing in January

We told you previously that stars Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes would be departing Promises, Promises in late December. Now comes word that the two headliners have extended their contracts for one week, when the show will close on January 2nd, 2011.

Producers said they considered re-casting the show after the planned departure of the two original stars, “but we didn’t think there was a way to replace Sean and Kristin” while still maintaining the show’s financial success. Ultimately the decision was made to go dark on January 2nd. When the show closes, it will have played 30 previews and 291 regular performances at the Broadway Theatre.

The good news is two-fold: First, there’s still time to see the show with us. Second, all those who join us after October 12th will see Saturday Night Live’s Molly Shannon, who makes her Broadway debut in the role of barfly Marge MacDougall.

And that’s today’s ShowBus Buzz. We’ll be back later this week with our next blog update. Please join us then.
