R&B queen and Grammy Award winner Patti LaBelle is Broadway bound! The soulful songstress has announced that she’ll be joining the cast of the hit musical Fela! at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre this September. Word is that Ms. LaBelle will be filling in for Tony winner Lillias White, taking over the role of mother Funmilayo Kuti. White is said to be headed for Australia where she will be performing a series of concerts.
Her performance in Fela! will mark LaBelle’s first return to The Great White Way since 1998. Her previous Broadway appearances included a role in the musical revival of Your Arms Too Short to Box with God and in Patti La Belle on Broadway. Best known for her Grammy Award winning singing career, LaBelle has also appeared in numerous film and television roles. well.
