As we told you back in mid-March of this year, Unchain My Heart, the Ray Charles story, is headed for Broadway this Fall. Now its theatrical home has been announced. On October 8th, previews for the show will begin at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on West 47th, with opening night set for November 7th.
The production will feature Brandon Victor Dixon in the role of Charles. Also rounding out the cast are Nikki Renee Daniels, Harrison White and Tasha Taylor. Additional casting has yet to be announced.
Unchain My Heart explores the strength, humor and musical genius of this legendary entertainer. Set in his last live recording session, Unchain My Heart reveals Charles’ remarkable life story through his music. Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks (Topdog/Underdog) weaves together true tales that reveal the spirit of the man whose life and music helped to define soul, and inspired people the world over.
