Love Never Dies Delayed Due to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Health

It’s the sequel to Phantom of the Opera. And Andrew Lloyd’s Webber’s Love Never Dies was scheduled to make it’s Broadway debut later this year in November. Now there’s word that the opening will be delayed until Spring of 2011, owing to issues with the famed composer’s health.

You may recall that we reported Lloyd Webber’s diagnosis with prostate cancer late last year. But in January of this year, he declared himself to be “cancer-free.” Now comes word that while the cancer is in check, there have been post-operative complications which prevent him from flying. As a result, he is unable to travel to New York to conduct auditions or participate in pre-production planning.

Love Never Dies is set in 1907,  a decade  after the end of Phantom. Christine Daaé is invited to perform at Phantasma, a new attraction in Coney Island, by an anonymous impresario  and, with her husband Raoul and son Gustave in tow, she journeys to Brooklyn, unaware that it is the Phantom who has arranged her appearance in the popular beach resort.

When the 2011 debut date is set, you can be sure we’ll have it for you here.
